PvE Shadowsteps
Something that caught my eye while browsing the talk pages on wiki.
Quote:
Issue
Shadow stepping is barely ever viable in PvE besides running and occasionally when you need to skip over terrain.
Suggestion
Lower recharges on all PvE shadow steps would make them MUCH more viable. Taking away aftercast would give the assassin his rhythm back. Let's start with Death's Charge Death's Charge. This skill can be a powerful self-heal but it's recharge makes it inconvenient, especially since it brings you back into melee. Perhaps a 12 second recharge would make this a much more viable heal. Dark Prison Dark Prison can be decent for starting chains, but it needs to recharge much more quickly. In PvE, you simply *aren't* going to be using any kind of build that can score a kill every 30 seconds. Dark prison and Shadow Prison Shadow Prison alike need very small recharges. 6 for shadow prison, 12 for Dark prison. As it is now, Assassin's Promise is about the only hex sins use in PvE other than Asuran Scan. Beguiling Haze Beguiling Haze provides Daze, which is extremely powerful, so perhaps a 16 recharge on it, but otherwise it's fine for a daze skill. Perhaps 10 energy would make it more appealing. Shadow Fang Shadow Fang suffers from too high of a recharge to be useful. Bring the recharge down to 10 and it would become an interesting skill for pulling mobs that would still retain killing capacity afterward. Aura of Displacement Aura of Displacement follows the same principle, however it is elite. A 5 second recharge and 5 energy would make this an appealing skill to assassins.

Any [assassin's promise] build with either [shadow walk] or [shadow fang].
Why am I not surprised these suggestions come from a runner...

Agreed. Shadow steps in PvE are not that useful right now, low cooldowns wouldn't hurt.

O.o You know Quin? lol
As for the suggestions themselves, its more like Anet raped shadow steps without caring about the huge chunk (or so I would like to think) of the GW playerbase which ADORES their sins and wants their leet *poof* skills to be better. :P
I would LOVE it if they reverted the aftercast nerf. The recharge buffs would just be gravy.
Edit: Forgot to add before I get flamed by the PvP fanboyz, I want all changes to be PvE only.
Thank you.

For every sin that would be thrilled to have shorter cooldowns, there are ten of us that don't want to have to compete for kills (or to get a hit in) with your idea of an uber sin. Be happy they gave you back your perma sin builds with Shadowform. There is plenty you can do in PvE that others can't.

Compete for kills? This isn't a FPS, this is a team-based RPG. The Assassin's job is classically to score quick kills or consistent damage. Whatever other roles are supplied by the team are chosen based on team composition. "Competing" for kills? No, either the Assassin is doing his job of killing and other roles are supplementing that ability, or you are assisting in making the kill by increasing damage taken by the target. Either way, the purpose is for the target to ultimately die, preferably as quickly as possible. I don't want to have to compete for party support with your Monk or Paragon... oh wait, it's part of your job that you're expected to be better at given your placement in the team.
That having been said, reducing Shadow Step recharges in PvE would make me incredibly happy. Since I mostly H/H, in areas heavy with snares, large mobs that group together, etc., getting to the right target (or getting to ANY target before they're all dead) can be extremely annoying. Shadow Steps would be a perfect fix to this and since they have NO functionality in PvE currently this would be a good idea to employ their usefulness.

id like that too
mostly its eles and mesmers that compete imo, but just cos of the long cast times and the way the eles energy management is, failing to finish a cast is painful

sins dont need shadowsteps. they were stupid before and would still be useless if the recharges were shortened. [wastrels collapse] is by far the only shadowstep worth using now. im just waiting for a nerf so i can start thinking of another gank build
what i would like tho if [temple strike] was lowered to 10 e and 10 sec recharge. talk about being overpowered.

assassins job isnt always killing, ive been in some ab and ta teams where there are 2 sins and their sole purpose, like mesmers, is to shutdown a key link in the other team i.e mesmers and monks. if a assassins job is to savagely kill w/o any skill or technique then why do sins run at the sign of a [defy pain] wammo or [avatar of balthazar] derv? smart sins use this class to its full potential and kill/shutdown with skills such as [temple strike] and [mark of insecurity].
EDIT: [siphon strength] is also a fav or mine when it comes to utility.

I think you are missing the point.
This entire discussion is for PvE only.

shadowstepping is a good way to make the AI go berserk. as such, you should never run shadowsteps in pve, unless you really want to manually flag your heroes/hench each time.

Wow, faraaz, a topic we agree on! hehehehe...
I would love to be able to shadowstep more, currently, I just run dash and speed into battle as apposed to shadowstepping... I'd love to see some improvements to a number of the PVE shadowsteps...

I can see it being useful for runners (which ANet cares nothing about, for or against) to cover ground more quickly. That would be a major plus for them... lower CD on Steps = faster run = more runs in a given timeframe = more profit.
I'll admit, when I run my 'Sin in PvE I wish I could bounce around like Nightcrawler, too. Hell, they even gave most Steps the classic "BAMF" animation (if you've ever read any of Marvel Comics' X-Series, you'd know... and yes, I think ANet used the animation they did because of Nightcrawler, if you can't tell). The aftercast delay is a bit annoying, but easy to deal with, it's a drawback to using the Step to get in close.
Meh, if they do, they do, if they don't, they don't.
/signed if just to get a few seconds dropped off the recharge in PvE for a few more Step > Instagib kills when I take Wraith for a spin...
